ABOUT CAMILLE
Camille Young is an internationally award-winning contemporary realist painter based in Moraga, California. Working primarily in watercolor—and occasionally in oil on canvas or board—she brings a bold, expressive approach to her subjects. Using her camera as a sketchbook, Camille captures the fleeting beauty of landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes, wildlife, figures, and florals. This photographic reference allows her to preserve ephemeral moments of light, shadow, and stillness that later inform her paintings.
In her watercolors, Camille pushes the medium beyond its traditional boundaries, layering multiple washes, amplifying colors, using vigorous brushwork, and introducing unexpected textures. Her subjects often draw from her travels across Europe, Asia, and North Africa, where she seeks to convey not just the visual scene but also the atmosphere, color palette, historical character, and distinctive shapes of each location.
Her unique style has garnered recognition in numerous juried exhibitions at the local, national, and international levels. Notable honors include the Grumbacher Award, the Winsor & Newton Award, and selection as a finalist in The Artist’s Magazine Experimental Category.
